Channel is an electronic record composed using an unconventional 'tree-like' approach, soundtracking the intersection of technology and nature.
All proceeds from the sale of the album go to the World Land Trust, to help protect and sustainably manage natural ecosystems of the world.
Full album, with visuals created by Captain Adhoc and artist Nevena Nikolcheva.
Captain Adhoc is a loose collective of music obsessives and friends, who write varying strains of electronic music when not working as animators, cinematographers and sound designers in the the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
They first collaborated more than a decade ago, and have performed and recorded several unreleased, mostly improvisational works since.
Channel is a colourful, fractal electronic experiment - An album of IDM, glitch and ambient music grown from a single seed.
An unconventional tree-like approach was used for the album’s composition, beginning with a simple melodic sample and a photo of a stone bridge crossing a river.
Each band member used these as an inspirational starting point, yielding four tracks that would act as the base of the album’s sound.
Over the course of a year, each artist took their bandmates’ compositions and created new works inspired by each of them, leading to three musical ‘branches’ sprouting from each of the first four tracks.
As the album spread out from the initial seed, themes began to emerge; The natural world’s uneasy relationship with technology, and the violent change wrought by both humanity and the elements.
The 16 tracks were pruned down to 12 cohesive works, and the album was mixed and sequenced to support the developing thematic structure.
The result is a journey through a kaleidoscope of moods and colours, with songs that inform and reflect their neighbours, each unique but inextricably linked to the other.
